The 2022 Jérôme Galeyrand Gevrey-Chambertin "En Billard" comes from a 0.26-hectare plot planted in 1987 in Brochon, near Champerriers and Clos de la Justice. The site is known for its deep, sandy soils with alluvial pebbles, making it the earliest ripening spot in Gevrey. The wine is made with organic and biodynamic practices, using 15-20% whole clusters, and fermented with ambient yeast. It is aged for 12-16 months in barrels (20% new) and bottled with minimal SO2. The wine features aromas of cassis, plums, blackberries, and orange rind, with flavors of ripe cherry, raspberry, and licorice. It is medium to full-bodied, with supple tannins, lively acidity, and a fleshy, seamless profile. The wine is approachable now but will age well from 2027 to 2032. Critics praise its balance, with some noting a bit less energy than other Galeyrand wines.
