It was in 1987 when two visionaries partners, Aurelio Montes and Douglas Murray, wanted to realize their dreams of producing wines of a quality far superior to the one that was being produced in Chile at that time. They added in 1988 the other two original partners, Alfredo Vidaurre and Pedro Grand, giving birth to Vina Montes. Colchagua is one of the Chilean wine valleys with the most international prestige, in which Vina Montes was a pioneer in establishing. This valley is located in the central zone of Chile, less than two hours driving from its capital, Santiago. Montes vineyards are in Apalta and Marchigue, a unique location where the mild sun exposure and influence from the Pacific make for balanced ripeness. The complex nose offers outstanding aromas of ripe black fruits such as figs and blackberries complemented by notes of creme de cassis, while spices such as cayenne pepper appear over a back of dark chocolate, which masterfully envelopes subtle aromas of leather and tobacco. A meat lover's wine, this will stand out with your favorite cut of steak. Don't feel pressured to get too complicated however, this wine is great with some salami and nutty Provolone cheese . .
