G. D. Vajra Barbera D`Alba Superiore 2021

The G.D. Vajra 2017 Barbera d'Alba Superiore Viola delle Viole is an outstanding example of Barbera from old vines, some dating back to 1949, with an inky, almost impenetrable appearance. The bouquet opens to robust aromas of blackberry jam and cherry preserves, showcasing the heat and richness of the vintage. The 2017 growing season produced very concentrated fruit with smaller berry size due to heat and drought, resulting in a super-sized Barbera that ups the ante in terms of extraction and intensity. There is a point of almost-sweetness on the close followed by good acidity, making it ideal for pairing with marinated or spicy barbecued meat. Vajra Barbera Superiore is a wine of intense aromatics, structure, and longevity, exemplified by the just-bottled 2021 Barbera.
