Wolftrap Red (Syr/Mv,Boekenhoutskloof/S.Af) 22

Boekenhoutskloof, established in 1776, is a farm located in the furthest corner of the beautiful Franschhoek Valley and is the producer of The Wolftrap label under Marc Kent, owner and chief winemaker. This blend of Syrah 91%, Mourvedre 8%, and Viognier 1% offers an intense, dark, and brooding nose with black fruit aromas, violets, pepper, cured meat, dried coriander, and tar. Savory, gamey flavors of dark berries, licorice, black olives, and cardamom continue onto the palate with hints of cranberry, red currant, and cloves. The mid-palate is full and rich with supple tannins and integrated acidity, displaying notes of sweet tobacco and subtle oaking. The wine finishes with a lingering smoky, charry, and juicy finish. Perfectly paired with dishes like seared filet mignon, grilled pepper jack cheese burgers, or pepperoni pizza.
